Pamela Anderson attended the screening of her new film The Last Showgirl in West Hollywood on Sunday, December 8, debuting a fresh new look. The actress, who went makeup-free for the event, also showcased a hair transformation that included bangs.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Anderson opened up about her decision to go makeup-free, saying it has helped her feel “more” herself than ever before. She recalled her first public appearance without makeup during Paris Fashion Week in September 2023. “There’s these beautiful clothes. I’m wearing Vivienne Westwood,” Anderson said. “I have this great hat and beautiful coat. Nobody’s going to notice if I don’t wear any makeup.”
She added that she never expected the move to resonate so deeply with others. “I didn’t realize it was going to start all of this, all these people really relating to me. It’s a great message — we are good enough just the way we are. I have to remind myself of that every day.”
Anderson also reflected on how she distanced herself from the public persona she created early in her career. “I created this character to cover up a lot of my disappointment in things that have happened along the way,” she shared.
Director Gia Coppola on Casting Anderson
Director Gia Coppola spoke about casting Anderson in The Last Showgirl in a recent interview with Deadline. Coppola explained that Anderson and her character, Shelly, shared similar traits. The film follows Shelly, a seasoned showgirl who must plan for her future after her show closes unexpectedly after 30 years. Anderson plays the lead role of Shelly.
“She seems like a woman who was turning her frown upside down and making lemonade out of lemons,” Coppola said about Shelly. “It was a bubbly, bright spirit, sometimes used as a defense mechanism.”
Coppola also explained that although Anderson shared some similarities with the character, the role was different enough to excite her creatively. “She wanted to express herself as an actress, but this role was more than just a documentary approach,” Coppola said.
Anderson’s Struggle with the Role
Anderson admitted that her agent initially rejected the role, believing it wasn’t right for her. “He thought I couldn’t do it,” she recalled. “At that point, I was being offered nothing. But also, I’d kind of given up too, in a way.”
Despite her agent’s rejection, Coppola remained determined. “I saw a woman bursting at the seams, wanting to express herself creatively,” she said. Eventually, after multiple discussions, Anderson agreed to take on the role. “I was telling her, ‘Are you sure you want me to do this? I know I can do this,'” Anderson said. “We just spent a lot of time with me selling her and her selling me. And then by the end of it, we both realized, OK, we’re doing this.”
Pamela Anderson stars in The Last Showgirl alongside Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, Billie Lourd, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dave Bautista.
