Henry Cavill was recently spotted at Heathrow Airport in London, fueling speculation that he’s headed to Australia to begin filming the live-action Voltron movie. The film, which will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, is a modern adaptation of the classic 1980s animated series.
Cavill, widely recognized for his roles in The Witcher and Man of Steel, is set to star in the Voltron reboot. While his specific role remains undisclosed, fans are eager to learn more about the character he will portray.
In a recent photo, Cavill was seen with fans, sporting a new look with longer, curly, and wavy hair.
The film will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for his work on Red Notice. At VoltCon in October, Thurber expressed his excitement about the project, sharing that production is set to begin in about six weeks. This timeline aligns with Cavill’s possible departure for Australia last week. Thurber also revealed that the film will introduce a fresh generation of Voltron pilots.
Filming will take place on the Gold Coast of Australia, and Thurber, speaking from the location, described Voltron as a “dream project” that he has been passionate about for decades. He teased exciting scenes involving the iconic Voltron castle and the Lions. During his appearance, Thurber also gave fans a glimpse of the impressive sets being built for the film, including Stage 8, one of the key locations. He highlighted the scale and grandeur of the production, praising the hundreds of artists and collaborators working on the project.
The Voltron cast is set to include Henry Cavill, alongside Daniel Quinn-Toye, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, John Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, Tharanya Tharan, Laura Gordon, and Tim Griffin. While details about their characters remain under wraps, the ensemble cast has generated much excitement.
As of now, Amazon MGM Studios has not announced an official release date for the Voltron movie. However, with production on the horizon, fans can expect more updates in the near future.
