Bob hairstyles are undeniably one of the most popular trends of 2024. From Jennifer Aniston’s sleek ’90s chop to Michelle Yeoh’s blonde makeover and Kendall Jenner’s blunt brunette cut, the shorter style continues to dominate this year.
The latest celebrity to embrace the bob is Keira Knightley. After sporting her signature longer locks during the summer at Wimbledon, Knightley has now traded her flowing brunette waves for a chic bob that sits just above her shoulders. She debuted the look as she kicked off her press tour for Black Doves, a Netflix thriller set to be released tomorrow. At the London premiere last night, Knightley showcased an unexpected, beachy take on the bob, styled by renowned hairstylist Luke Hersheson of Hershesons salons in London.
Hersheson, a favorite among British stars like Dua Lipa, Victoria Beckham, and Sienna Miller, is known for creating effortlessly undone glamour. His signature textured, tousled styles have become iconic, and he’s been collaborating with Knightley for years, having previously given her a short crop in 2021.
For Knightley’s latest look, Hersheson gave her blunt bob a modern twist with lived-in waves and beachy texture, creating a fresh, edgy vibe that complemented her sleek, high-shine Chanel outfit. “It was a ’90s, elevated grunge idea,” Hersheson explains to Bazaar. While many might choose a more classic, old Hollywood look for the red carpet, this rock ‘n’ roll approach feels more in line with Knightley’s signature offbeat, cool style. “I used my new multi-tasker mermaid waver attachment with large barrels—it gives a subtle flat wave,” he shares. To finish the look, he added some Air Dry Spray for separation and hold.
Knightley’s makeup, done by Lisa Eldridge, added a sophisticated touch to the grungy style. With rosy cheeks, soft lips, and elegant smokey eyes (using the Sculpt and Shade Lip Pencil in 0N, 1N, and Rouge Experience Refillable Lipstick in Simone), Knightley brought an effortlessly grown-up and polished feel to the otherwise edgy look.
