Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is unveiling a fresh look before Sunday’s Week 9 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
“I just did it,” Tagovailoa told reporters on Wednesday about his decision to dye his hair. He is preparing to make his second consecutive start after returning from injured reserve due to a concussion he sustained in Week 2. In his return last Sunday, he completed 73.7 percent of his passes, throwing for 234 yards and one touchdown in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Tagovailoa sported a similar hair color during his college days at Alabama, where he led the Crimson Tide to a national championship victory against Georgia in 2018. He also made a notable hair change last season, returning with braided cornrows after the team’s Week 10 bye. Following that change, the Dolphins won three straight games and claimed five victories in their next six outings in 2023.
Now, Miami hopes that Tagovailoa’s latest hairstyle will bring a boost. The Dolphins are entering Week 9 having lost five of their last six games. Last Sunday’s loss was particularly frustrating, as the Dolphins could not prevent the Cardinals from setting up a game-winning field goal.
Tagovailoa’s return offers hope for the team. He managed to avoid significant contact during the loss, and despite a challenging 2-6 start to the season, the Dolphins still have a chance at the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the 6-2 Bills are leading the AFC East, but the Dolphins could still contend for a playoff spot against teams like the 4-3 Chargers. A win against the Bills on Sunday would raise Miami’s playoff chances to 14 percent, while a loss would reduce them to just 4 percent, according to Next Gen Stats.
