Sydney Sweeney is demonstrating that not all blondes have more fun. The “Anyone But You” actress surprised fans over the weekend with her new brunette mullet as she filmed her latest movie.
Sweeney appeared almost unrecognizable with her new shaggy hairstyle, replacing her signature golden locks. She is preparing for her role as Christy Martin, a well-known female boxer from the ’90s. To embrace the era, Sweeney sported a dark brown mullet, featuring shorter pieces in the front, complemented by a blue bandana.
It remains unclear if Sweeney’s hair transformation is a result of dyeing or a wig. However, she fully embraced the new look by wearing an oversized tan and white striped t-shirt and a large gray-blue hoodie that was unzipped to reveal her shirt underneath. She paired the outfit with baggy black sweatpants, scrunched at the ankles, and high-top white tennis shoes.
On October 16, Sweeney shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, showcasing her transformation into the “female Rocky,” a nickname given to Martin during her prime. The images featured Sweeney with long curly brown hair and full bangs styled in a low ponytail. She also highlighted her toned arms while wearing a red tank top, gray sweatpants, and white tennis shoes.
“Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes, so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now,” she wrote in the caption. “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. More to come soon :).”
Sweeney has previously discussed her preparation for the role, telling Dateline that she has some experience in training, having grappled and practiced kickboxing from age 12 to 19. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body,” she said. “Christy’s story isn’t a light one; it’s physically and emotionally demanding. There’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”
