James Norton, known for his striking flame-colored curls, surprised fans on Monday with a dramatic new look. The “Happy Valley” star appeared nearly unrecognizable with his new jet-black hair during a special screening of his latest film, Joy, at Soho House.
At the event, the 39-year-old actor maintained his signature utilitarian style, donning charcoal baggy jeans and a knitted jumper. He posed for photos alongside his co-stars. Thomasin Harcourt dazzled in a sequin-studded black minidress paired with a matching denim jacket, while Charlotte Colbert exuded elegance in a tweed jacket and oversized sunglasses.
Joy is set to be an emotional film. Norton plays scientist Robert Edwards, who collaborates with Harcourt’s character, Jean Purdy, a young nurse and embryologist. They work alongside surgeon Patrick Steptoe, portrayed by Bill Nighy, to tackle the challenge of infertility by pioneering in vitro fertilization.
The film highlights the themes of perseverance and scientific innovation. It follows this groundbreaking trio as they overcome significant obstacles to achieve their goals, inspiring millions in the process.
Other notable attendees at the screening included Hannah Vaughan Jones, Richard E. Grant, and Rhoda Ofori-Attah. While fans largely overlooked Norton’s hair transformation, many took to the comments section to express their admiration.
“He’s beautiful,” one fan commented, while another wrote, “What a beautiful picture of James. It’s a pleasure to see him smile because he has the most beautiful smile.”
