Two hairstylists from Invercargill are set to represent the South Island at the Davines World Wide Hair Tour in Berlin this year. Ella Humphrey, 22, and Sophie Steel, 20, who work at Venom salon, will depart for Germany on Monday. They were chosen to participate in the prestigious event scheduled for October 6-8.
The tour will highlight innovative techniques, creative inspirations, and sustainable practices in hairdressing. It will also provide a platform for stylists from around the globe to connect with industry leaders.
Both Humphrey and Steel expressed their excitement about the chance to bring the latest hair trends and insights back to their clients. Steel mentioned that the owners of Venom, Adrian and Karen Barclay, encouraged their stylists to participate in the tour when the opportunity arose.
“We have a strong partnership with Davines, a sustainable beauty company based in Parma, Italy,” Steel said.
Humphrey described the tour as a “celebration of Davines as a brand,” emphasizing its focus on honoring the craft of hairdressing. She added, “This experience will definitely shape the rest of our careers. We’re going to see some amazing things.”
Both stylists have deep roots in the salon, having worked there since high school. Steel has been with Venom for four years, while Humphrey has been a part of the team for six years.
“We are proud to represent Southland at this tour,” Steel said. “Only a handful of stylists from New Zealand are attending, and we believe we are the only representatives from the South Island. We are truly grateful for this opportunity.”
As neither stylist has visited Germany before, they are eager to explore the city before the busy tour begins.
“It’s about connecting with major international award-winning stylists and witnessing their work on stage,” Humphrey shared. She also noted that they were particularly excited to see New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year Danny Pato among the attendees.
