In the new book It’s All About the Hair: My Decade with Diana, Richard Dalton, who was Princess Diana’s hairstylist for ten years, shares new insights into her reflections on her wedding day. According to Dalton, although he did not style Diana’s wedding hair himself, she viewed it as a “disaster” and regretted it.
“Diana mentioned she wished she could redo the wedding to ‘get the hair right,'” Dalton told People magazine. “She never expressed any other regrets during our time together.”
At just 20, Diana married Prince Charles in a gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. Her makeup was kept minimal, featuring a subtle smoky eye and a natural base, while her short hair was styled with a blowout. The style was somewhat flattened by the weight of her Spencer Tiara. Dalton revealed that he chose to write his book only now, after 27 years, to share his memories while respecting Diana’s privacy. “As a loyal subject of the royal family, I kept these details private to protect her. Now, I feel it’s time to share the wonderful memories without harming her reputation,” he said.
Dalton’s book also recounts a decade of experiences with Diana, reflecting on her varied moods and the personal moments they shared. “Some days she was happy, other days quiet, talkative, or sad. I witnessed all these aspects of her personality,” Dalton writes.
After their professional relationship ended in 1991, Diana’s hairstyle evolved to include a windswept fringe and layered pixie cut, which became a significant part of her iconic look.
