Angelina Jolie made a striking appearance at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, showcasing a new blonde hairstyle and wearing a tan ruched gown by designer Tamara Ralph. The actress walked the red carpet for the premiere of her film Maria, a biopic about the legendary opera singer Maria Callas. Jolie complemented her gown with a matching faux fur shawl and a prominent gold flower pin, closely resembling the Rose Ouvrante 1972 brooch that Callas once owned and Jolie wore during the film’s production.
Jolie’s hair was styled straight, and she completed her look with a bold red lip and matching nails. This marked her third appearance at the annual festival. Earlier in the day, she attended a photo-call for Maria, donning a long black dress from her own label, Atelier Jolie. At the event, she showcased a Cartier panther brooch from 1971, previously owned by Callas. The brooch is now part of the Cartier Collection, which lent it to Jolie for both the film and the festival. “You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers,” Jolie told Vogue.
Jolie’s first appearance of the day featured a sheer brown V-neck dress by Saint Laurent, paired with Jessica McCormack diamond earrings and a matching diamond ring.
The role of Maria Callas had a profound impact on Jolie. Speaking to reporters, she expressed how deeply she connected with the character’s story. Director Pablo Larraín described the film as a portrayal of a woman who spent her life singing and caring for others, but is now ready to focus on herself and her destiny.
Reflecting on her connection to Callas, Jolie said, “There’s a lot I won’t say in this room that you probably know or assume. I think the way I related to her was probably the part of her that is extremely soft and doesn’t have room in the world to be as soft as she was, as emotionally open as she truly was…I share her vulnerability more than anything.”
