Tennis star Leylah Fernandez aims to secure her first Grand Slam title at the 2024 U.S. Open, and she’s doing so with a fresh new look. The 21-year-old Canadian entered the tournament as the No. 23 seed.
Fernandez previously reached the U.S. Open final at age 19, finishing as the runner-up to Emma Raducanu. That match propelled both players into the spotlight and marked a significant moment in their careers.
For this year’s U.S. Open, Fernandez opted for a change and appeared at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City with a new hairstyle. As she walked onto the court for her match against Anastasia Potapova of Russia, Fernandez showcased her fresh braids, a style created by freelance New York City hairstylist India Williams. Fernandez shared the transformation in a video on Instagram and looked thrilled with her new look.
Despite the stylish change, Fernandez fell short in a tough three-set battle, losing 6-2, 4-6, 5-7.
