Late Monday night, Brittney Griner and the Phoenix Mercury will head to New York City to face the top team in the league, Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty.
Griner, along with teammate Diana Taurasi, secured another Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games. However, since the WNBA’s return, the Mercury have experienced mixed results, winning three out of their five games. The Liberty, who were the first team to secure a playoff spot, will challenge Phoenix with one of their toughest matches of the season.
Ahead of the game, the Mercury shared a photo on social media showing Griner with a new hairstyle during practice. Griner, who had previously worn her hair in curls throughout the season, appears to have returned to her former locs hairstyle.
Fans of the Mercury and the WNBA have shown enthusiasm for Griner’s new look online.
“BG got a new look”
“Protective style BG is back let’s go >>>> I will miss the loose curl fro tho”
“LOC COMEBACK !?!”
“Are the locs coming back?????”
This season, Griner has played in 20 games, averaging 18.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. She missed the Mercury’s first ten games due to a foot injury but has made a significant impact since her return.
