Carlton Rose, the owner of Uplift Barber Studio, organized the event to support his community by offering free haircuts to children. His goal was to help kids start the school year with confidence and a positive attitude.
Rose explained, “We want them to feel good about themselves and approach the school year with confidence and dedication.”
On Monday morning, Rose and barber Jose Torres opened their doors to children aged 12 and under. The event quickly drew a crowd.
Caleb Victor shared his enthusiasm about his new haircut, saying it would make his hair easier to manage. “It will be easier to comb with this new haircut,” he noted.
Jayden Hyde also felt more prepared for school, commenting, “It feels pretty nice.”
Max Powell, a staff member at the shop, believes a fresh haircut can significantly boost a child’s confidence. “For me personally, it would make me confident, and I think it should do the same for others, helping them feel good for the first day,” Powell said.
The event also offered relief to parents, many of whom were grateful for the support. Single parent Yulanda Chadwell remarked, “It means a lot, and it’s saving me tremendously. It also helps the kids meet others from the community.”
Michael Hyde echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for community programs that support youth. “We need more programs like this to give back to the youth. Many kids need guidance and mentors, so this kind of initiative is really beneficial,” Hyde said.
The event was a hit, with many children eager to show off their new looks. This free haircut day at Uplift Barber Studio is the first of its kind, and Rose plans to continue offering this service in the future.
Students in Pittsfield will return to school on Thursday.
