How a Nigerian Hair Salon Is Thriving in Beijing

by Barbara

Mira Pages, a Nigerian-owned beauty salon, is part of a growing trend of African businesses setting up shop in Beijing. The city has become a magnet for international entrepreneurs, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and potential.

Akinade Iyanuo-Luwa Dolapo, the owner of Mira Pages, has made Beijing her home for the past decade. “I moved to China in 2011 due to marriage,” Dolapo told China Global Television Network (CGTN). Her husband works in Beijing, which led her to relocate to the city.

Dolapo’s salon caters to the hairstyle needs of Beijing’s diverse population, including many African residents. “We offer products for dreadlocks, including serums, deep conditioners, and protein treatments,” Dolapo explained. “We serve clients of all backgrounds—Chinese, white, black, and Latino—handling every hair texture.”

Dolapo appreciates Beijing’s welcoming environment. “I’m grateful to Beijing for allowing foreigners to share their talents and grow their businesses,” she said.

The city has also made it easier for foreign entrepreneurs to start businesses by simplifying the process of obtaining business licenses. Dolapo remains optimistic about her salon’s future, thanks to the supportive policies and favorable business environment in Beijing.
