In a world where fans have a storied history of going wild when their favorite rockers undergo a hair transformation, Chad Kroeger of Nickelback offered a refreshingly candid insight into why he decided to part with his famous locks in the early 2010s. The revelation came during the red carpet event for the premiere of the documentary, “Nickelback: Love to Hate,” where Toronto’s CHUM 104.5 caught up with the musician.
With a chuckle, Kroeger admitted, “Believe it or not, it was just an accident. That’s the unvarnished truth. It was a complete accident. My hairdresser simply got a bit too enthusiastic with the scissors, and it ended up at this awkward length. I just thought, ‘Nah, this won’t do.'”
Drummer Daniel Adair chimed in, shedding more light on the situation. “But you know, he had been mulling it over for years. He used to say, ‘One of these days, I’m going to go for the chop,’ and I guess this incident pushed him over the edge.”
Kroeger reminisced, “The ironic part is that we had just wrapped up a series of photo shoots for our latest album. Literally, it was fresh off the press, and the very next day, I decided to part ways with my hair. The rest of the band was like, ‘We love the new hair. Should we schedule more photo sessions?’ It was rather amusing to step onto the stage for the subsequent two tours – or at least the first two tours – and sense the audience collectively wonder, ‘Where’s his hair gone?’ My response was simple, ‘I cut it. It’s just hair, after all.'”
