In the wake of her June wedding, Taylor Hill found herself drawn to a new allure.
“I spent the summer with my flowing locks, but an irresistible urge took hold,” she confides to Vogue from her Manhattan abode. “Back in 2020, I took the plunge with a bob, and while I cherished the experience, I yearned for something fresh. That’s when I embarked on a creative journey.”
Her mood board quickly filled with snapshots of her fellow models and short-hair luminaries, including Linda Evangelista, Shalom Harlow, Audrey Hepburn, and enigmatic strangers from street style shots whose hair captivated her.
The transformative snip occurred during a photoshoot, with the lead hairstylist, Takuya Yamaguchi, at the helm. The recognition of his name resonated with Hill as he had previously worked alongside the legendary Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show hairstylist, Akki Shirakawa. “It felt like destiny,” she muses.
“It’s only been a matter of days since the dramatic chop, and those who know me well can’t help but do double takes,” Hill remarks, her laughter filling the room. “My face remains the same!”
Yet, Hill, set to unveil her new look at a New York Fashion Week extravaganza sponsored by Victoria’s Secret, acknowledges the transformative influence of a haircut. “With shorter hair, nothing else about me has changed except the length of my locks, but somehow I feel more authentic. I used to perceive a disconnection between my personal style and my appearance, but now that I’ve shed my long tresses, I’ve discovered the missing link,” she reflects. “The long hair that accompanied me for most of my life exudes sweetness and youth, but this exudes maturity and coolness. Though the most noticeable difference is the absence of a ponytail when I run my fingers through my hair.”
