Lord Voldemort may have been Harry Potter’s main villain, but that doesn’t make him the most hated character in the series. Potterheads unanimously agree evil takes a human form in Dolores Umbridge. Despite having no connections to Death Eaters, this Ministry of Magic employee proved she’s more sinister than the worst of them – despite all those pink fuzzy cardigans and cute kitty photos in her office.
Imelda Staunton – Now
Bringing one of the most despised fictional characters to life wasn’t an easy task, and producers had only one person in mind. Oscar-nominee Imelda Staunton accepted their invitation and gifted us with one of the most amazing performances in the franchise. Some of her most notable post-Potter roles include Disney’s Maleficent and LGBT comedy Pride, which brought her another BAFTA nomination.
Geraldine Somerville as Lily Potter
We’ve only got to see Harry’s mom Lily through flashbacks, but Geraldine Somerville did an amazing job conveying her kind spirit. During her time at Hogwarts, Lily was an excellent student who showed great promise and caught the eye of mischievous James Potter. The two fell in love, got married, had a baby, but didn’t get to enjoy their happiness for too long. Lord Voldemort killed them both, but their son Harry survived thanks to Lily’s sacrifice.
