A Very, Very Special Guest
In 2001, Anna Kournikova got the opportunity to co-star as Enrique Iglesias’s love interest for his “Escape” music video.
Although the two had never met before, both Iglesias and the production crew felt that she was going to be a great fit for the role. “Enrique, having the reputation that he does, has to have a very, very special guest… She’s an awfully, awfully beautiful tennis player. So, we’re gonna bring her into the movie world a little bit, and make Enrique and her be very steamy.”
Interestingly enough, though, the two had never actually met prior to shooting the video.
“I’m One of Them”
“I’ve never met her before, no. But I’m a big fan! I’m sure a lot of guys wanna meet her, you know. I’m one of them. She’s beautiful, talented, a great tennis player, and I’m sure she’s going to be great in the video,” Enrique mentioned to MTV’s behind-the-scenes of “Escape” music video interview.
Whether you’ve seen the music video or not, members of the production team mentioned that the chemistry between Enrique and Anna was absolutely magical. We’re not sure if it was love at first sight or not for Enrique, seeing as he was incredibly excited to work with the talented tennis player even before they even met on set! But there’s no doubt that he felt sparks afterwards.
