Getting Sent Straight to the Wall
Racing is so dangerous because the whole entire sport consists of you controlling a big piece of machinery, at immensely high speeds, on a very small track, with a bunch of other super-fast vehicles mere inches from you. Talk about intense!
And danger stroke strong during the 2005 Indy 300 Homestead race, when one of the other race cars began to spiral out of control all over the racetrack – literally.
“[The] car was coming down the track, because it had a broken suspension. And as it was coming down the track, it just clipped my right rear, and sent me straight up into the wall,” Patrick explained to NTT IndyCar Series.
“It Was a Huge Hit”
Of course, Patrick knew the risks when she signed up for this intense sport. But she was so excited about making it all the way to the Indy races, she didn’t expect her first race to put her in the hospital.
“It was a huge hit, I don’t remember anything from when I hit the wall to when I woke up in the Medical Center,” Patrick recalled during her interview with NTT IndyCar Series.
She ended up in the hospital for a mild concussion, but seemed to have shaken off the trauma quickly.
