The Queen of Speed Takes a Step Down from the Throne
In 2018, after 13 industry-shattering and adrenaline-rushing years, Danica realized she was ready for the next steps in her life.
“It wasn’t in my heart anymore. What I love about racing was that ability to progress and get better and finish better and better and ultimately win. And I just felt like that was becoming less and less something that was in my control,” Patrick shared with Nightline.
And in 2019 she even revealed in an interview that she doesn’t “really miss” racing after retiring.
But before the queen of speed took a step down from the throne to focus on new adventures, there was one more glass ceiling waiting to be broken.
Danica Double
In 2018, the devious and dashing driver officially announced her retirement, but also mentioned that she was going to participate in two more races that year. The two events, which were eventually known as the “Danica Double”, consisted of her two favorite runs – the Daytona 500 and Indy 500.
But of course, the dynamic Danica had to leave with a bang, and did one more amazing industry-shattering event. She was honorably selected to be the first female host for the ESPY, ABC’s live ESPN Sports Award Show. How amazing!.
