Lynda Carter, a Real-Life Wonder Woman

It’s the Muppet Show!

In 1980, Lynda made an unforgettable appearance in the Muppet Show as herself. She wowed audiences with her singing abilities, which were mostly unknown to fans of Wonder Woman – but the show didn’t shy away from making multiple references to the superheroine, with Miss Piggy even making an appearance in one skit as Wonder Pig.

A running gag throughout the episode was the fact that the Muppets kept needing to be reminded that Lynda Carter wasn’t, in actuality, Wonder Woman – a fact that many of them, like many of the show’s viewers, seemed to forget.

A Role for Life

Over the years, Lynda Carter’s involvement with Wonder Woman has been celebrated on numerous occasions. While she has moved on to other things since she played Diana Prince, for many people, she continued to embody the feminist icon that Wonder Woman has become.

Carter has said, in a USA Today interview, that “any actresses or actors” want to distance themselves from a role, “because we are actors, we really aren’t the people that we play. But I knew very early on that this character is much more than me certainly.” To try and distance herself “from the experiences that other people have of the character is silly.”
