Love for Wrestling
The Rock may no longer be a wrestler, but this sport will always have a special place in his heart. There are parts of it that make him like it more than acting, but he’s fully aware this isn’t something you can do long-term.
“Wrestling is intimate. You can reach out and touch the wrestlers. I don’t get that connection in movies, but the impact is so much greater. You’re able to craft a longer career in movies. In wrestling, there’s a shelf life, and some wrestlers don’t pay attention to the shelf life,” Johnson told Esquire.
Official Retirement
Even after he made his wrestling comeback, Johnson’s WWE appearances were few and far between as this was no longer his main focus in life. He was usually a surprise guest everyone welcomed with open arms, but acting was still his no. 1 priority.
Despite the fact he misses wrestling, Johnson announced his official retirement in 2019. He no longer intends to appear in the ring as a competitor, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll never return to serve as a host or a special guest.
