At the very beginning of his acting career, The Rock tried to distance himself from his wrestling persona, but after the success of Fast Five that was no longer a concern. He returned as a special guest host of WrestleMania in 2011 and started his infamous feud with John Cena.
Unlike the majority of WWE rivalries, this one wasn’t just for show. During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Johnson admitted him and Cena had “real issues with each other” but went on to become good friends.
Harsh Remarks
In addition to hurling insults at each other in the ring, Cena called out Johnson publicly because he saw his decision to leave the world of WWE behind for Hollywood as betrayal, like many wrestling fans.
Cena later backtracked on his comments, after giving a shot to acting himself. The superstar wrestler said he called out The Rock out of ignorance, because he wasn’t aware he would be putting an entire film production and jobs of hundreds of people in jeopardy if he ended up being hurt during a wrestling match.
