Things started looking up for Johnson in 2007 when he starred in the Disney-produced family movie The Game Plan, which led to him landing a role in Tooth Fairy three years later.

Both movies received negative reviews, but they made over $100 million at the box office, and were considered a relative success for the studios behind them.

The Rock didn’t see things that way, and wasn’t happy with the kind of roles that were coming his way.

So, he decided to start from scratch again and be true to himself this time around.

Different Approach

According to Johnson, the biggest mistake he made with his first attempt to becoming a movie star was constantly listening to other people. He followed advices blindly and made a lot of changes that distanced him from who he truly was and what the really wanted.

“I bought into it. I embraced it. Well, like anything, when you start being someone else, not being yourself, you may get lucky and it may work for a little while, but it’s gonna come back and bite you in the a– eventually,” Johnson told Esquire.
