Getting Shredded
Once he started to realize that he was losing weight and could take control over what his body looked like, Baena couldn’t get enough. In addition to swimming practices and competitions, he started to go to the gym.
Between his sophomore and junior years, Joseph experienced a full transformation, which motivated him to continue training. Finally, he found something that gave him joy, and once he started the journey, it was hard to stop.
Training in College
When he went to college, a new sense of independence and drive continued to fuel Baena’s fitness journey. He didn’t want to revert back to the body he had when he was younger. He trained six days a week, with one day for “active rest”—where he would go on a hike or do cardio.
“I was able to acquire a bodybuilding mentality—that I could shape my body however I want,” he told Unwaxed. Not only did his interest in bodybuilding help Baena’s self-confidence and health, but it provided him with something even more important.
