Kendra and Maliyah’s high school physical education teacher Donna had high hopes and standards for these girls. “They came in fairly timid, fairly weak in some areas, but they told me that their goal is to be able to walk on crutches in the school by the end of the year,” she told BBC Three in 2019.
Their journey to learn how to use crutches was inspiring to Donna. “Last week, Kendra for the first time walked on her crutches here at school…A few weeks before that, Maliyah walked up the stairs…they’re just getting stronger all the time. They’re so determined,” Donna shared with the news outlet. Having people believe in the twins allowed them to continue flourishing.
