Dialysis would last another year and a half for Maliyah, who was placed on a waitlist for organ donations during that time. Her mom was amazed at her ability to stay positive. “She just took it in stride. She had friends on dialysis that passed away and she had to deal with the loss of her friends, which was really hard,” Erin Herrin told BBC Three.
Finally, an anonymous donor donated their kidney to Maliyah and she was able to come off of dialysis. And while her body would not reject this kidney transplant, she wasn’t out of the clear just yet.
