Maliyah’s Tough Journey
With only one kidney between the two girls, the doctors had to make a tough decision. “When we got separated, Kendra got the kidney. And then I went on dialysis for nine months until my mom donated her kidney,” Maliyah told BBC Three.
Unfortunately, ten years later, Maliyah’s body rejected her mom’s kidney, so Maliyah was put back on dialysis, which, according to the National Kidney Foundation, is a treatment that does the work of your kidneys when they aren’t working. It was unclear what would happen to Maliyah and how long she would have to continue these treatments.
