She Never Arrived
“Two weeks later, we received a phone call from that family in Alberta asking why she never came to the wedding,” said Farris’s granddaughter, Erin Farris-Hartley, in an interview with Global News. “So she had actually been missing for two weeks with nobody knowing,” she continued.
In law enforcement, it’s commonly accepted that the first few days are the most important when it comes to Missing Persons Investigations. Because of the delay in finding out that Farris had disappeared, this crucial window was missed.
Disappearance
Janet Farris was never seen again. Police searches along the route Janet had taken yielded nothing and the case went cold. Like with so many missing person cases, Farris’ family simply had to live with the uncertainty, never knowing what had happened to their mother and grandmother.
After nearly three decades, the family had almost given up hope. They could never have expected in their wildest dreams that their loved one would be found by a 13-year-old boy.
