Max’s Reaction
Unsurprisingly, the encounter also affected the 13-year-old boy. Nancy Werenka told Today that her son was still grieving on behalf of the loved ones that Janet Farris left behind. “He’s just very sad for the family. He feels for the family,” she said.
Despite the upsetting nature of the discovery, Max is glad he went the extra mile. “If [it] was something that could have helped anyone, why not try,” he told the news outlet. But Max’s part of the story wasn’t over quite yet.
Receiving a Commendation
On July 21st, 2022, almost two years after his dramatic discovery, Max received praise and recognition from the Revelstoke RCMP for the assistance he provided in solving the cold case. This rare honor just how impressed local police were with the 13-year-old teen’s admirable actions.
His official commendation reads “His actions and dedication to duty bring credit to himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of a Canadian citizen.” It’s clear that this is a young man with a bright future.
