Stigma and Debate
Breastfeeding is a source of contention for a number of reasons. Some sectors seek to ban the act in public places, while others demonize mothers who either decide to stop or otherwise cannot breastfeed. The act of nourishing babies with mother’s milk is a hot topic in many circles, and emotionally loaded.
Because of the intimate experience of nourishing your own child, being told you can’t do it in public, or alternately, that your choice not to do it with your own body, can really hurt.
