José for Hair, the oldest hair salon in Altrincham, has undergone a revamp. The salon was established in 1968 by José Izquierdo on Kingsway and operated successfully for 55 years before he retired two years ago.
However, the location has been home to a hair salon for nearly a century, as a different salon occupied the site for four decades before José took over.
Today, the salon is run by José’s daughter, Lisa Izquierdo. She purchased the business from her father seven years ago and has worked hard to enhance its reputation as one of the top salons in the town center. Lisa is committed to evolving the salon, and it recently revealed a new set of signage.
“We’re really proud to have been here for so long,” Lisa said. “Surviving the economic ups and downs and the challenges of Covid has been quite an achievement. I like to think of us as seasoned hairdressers!”
The team at José for Hair is indeed experienced. Lisa highlights Lyndsay Adkins as “absolutely one of the best” hair stylists in the country. Senior color technician Billy Brench, who has worked in Hong Kong and London, has earned international acclaim. Lynsey Latham is a skilled color technician and stylist known for advanced color techniques, while Andy Fielding specializes in women’s cuts and men’s styles after spending 17 years in Altrincham’s hairdressing scene.
Lisa, who has over 25 years of experience as a color technician and stylist, emphasized that their extensive background helps them stay current with rapidly changing hair trends.
“When we trained, we learned how to perm hair. But 16 years ago, the training syllabus removed perming and replaced it with hair extensions,” she explained. “Now, perming is back in fashion, so being a seasoned hairdresser really pays off!”
Lisa also noted that one of the salon’s main attractions is its friendly atmosphere.
“Hair salons can be intimidating, especially the larger branded ones. But we offer a welcoming environment. We enjoy having fun, but we are also very professional. It’s wonderful to see new clients discovering us after over 40 years.”
