Drew Barrymore boldly took off her hair extensions on her ABC talk show while discussing natural beauty with Pamela Anderson. In a preview clip for Tuesday’s episode, the 49-year-old host paused mid-conversation and unclipped the extensions from her hair.
After tossing the hairpiece across the studio, Drew revealed she started wearing it due to perimenopause symptoms. “Sorry, if we’re really going to be honest here,” she said, tugging at her hair while Pamela, 57, spoke about using makeup to create characters.
As Drew began removing the clip-ins, fellow guest Valerie Bertinelli exclaimed, “I love you so much.” Pamela chimed in, “Oh my gosh, this is wonderful. Let go. You don’t need that.” Drew then shared, “Another really awesome symptom of perimenopause is you start to lose your hair.”
Pamela reassured her, saying, “You have a lot of hair; your hair is beautiful.” Drew replied, “It’s good. It’s not bad.” Valerie, 64, noted that having a bad hair day can overshadow even the best makeup. Drew added that a good hair day boosts confidence, allowing for less makeup.
Drew has been open about her perimenopause experiences in recent months. In February, she announced her role as a brand ambassador for Dr. Kellyann’s supplements aimed at managing perimenopause and menopause. She emphasized that menopause is a natural part of life, stating, “You’re not alone and you don’t have to feel powerless.”
In a lively video, the mother of two proclaimed, “I’m not afraid of perimenopause anymore.”
In the Tuesday episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew and her guests, including Gillian Anderson and Gayle King, went makeup-free to celebrate Pamela’s message of embracing natural beauty.
Pamela shared her own journey to a makeup-free lifestyle, recounting an experience at Paris Fashion Week where she realized she didn’t need to compete with anyone. “Why am I wasting three hours in a makeup chair?” she wondered, realizing she could showcase her beautiful Vivienne Westwood outfits without makeup.
Reflecting on her past, Pamela said she felt she had lost touch with her true self. “I wanted to remember who I was,” she explained. She began reconnecting with nature and her roots, planting in her grandmother’s garden.
Pamela expressed joy in embracing her true self, stating, “This is the best time in my life. I feel so empowered and so free and so excited about life again.”
