CHICAGO (WLS) – Former reality TV star and Chicago radio host Charmaine Bey is making waves in the hair care industry with the launch of her new natural hair product line, Loc Bey. The line is designed specifically for people with locs and offers non-toxic, organic, and sulfate-free hair care solutions.
Loc Bey debuted online in January 2024 and has since expanded to Solo Beauty Supply, the largest Black-owned beauty supply store in Chicago. Bey’s brand will soon introduce a new product line called ‘Unicorn Poo’ on September 16. This groundbreaking release breaks away from traditional loc care, offering conditioners and leave-in treatments—products that are typically avoided in the loc community.
“There’s a common belief that just water and oil are enough for loc care,” Bey explained. “But sometimes, we need more. Our new line is designed to give locs that extra care and attention they deserve.”
Bey’s personal experience with her own loc journey motivated her to create the Loc Bey line. She shared in an interview with ABC7 Chicago that she often found it challenging to find products specifically for locs in mainstream stores.
“When I started my loc journey, it was frustrating not finding products that worked for my hair,” she said. “Not all natural hair products are suitable for locs. As more women embrace locs, it’s important that their specific hair care needs are met in stores. I’m dedicated to partnering with local and national retailers to ensure that happens.”
Bey’s passion for providing better hair care options for the loc community has driven her to continue expanding her product reach, ensuring that loc wearers have access to high-quality, tailored solutions.
